Pest profile
Moisture-loving nuisance pests in basements and gardens. We treat entry points and damp harborage areas.
Those pincered insects in your basement and garden are earwigs, moisture-loving nuisance pests that wander indoors looking for damp shelter. (One of our added residential services.)
Long, flat, reddish-brown bodies up to about 5/8 inch, with a distinctive pair of pincers (cerci) at the rear.
Earwigs are nocturnal and drawn to dampness. They hide by day under mulch, stones, and debris, then come out at night to feed on plants and small insects.
Sightings in damp basements, bathrooms, and around the foundation, plus ragged feeding damage on garden plants.
Harmless to people. The pincers can give a light pinch but aren't dangerous, so earwigs are mainly a nuisance indoors and a pest in the garden.
