Flies

Treated by our Residential Pest Control

How We Treat Flies

More than a nuisance, many flies spread disease, and several species bite. Real control means finding and eliminating the breeding source, not just swatting adults.

What they look like

House flies are the classic 'filth flies.' Biting species include black flies, no-see-ums (around 1/16 inch), horse flies (3/8 to 1 1/8 inch, blackish or gray), and deer flies.

Behavior & biology

Flies go through four life stages, egg, larva, pupa, and adult. House flies live about 15–25 days, blow flies 2–8 weeks, and fruit flies 40–50 days. House flies spit saliva to dissolve food, then defecate as they feed, which is exactly how they spread disease.

Signs of a problem

Clusters of flies around windows, trash, drains, and food prep areas, plus small dark specks where they rest.

Why they’re a problem

Flies can transmit typhoid, cholera, dysentery, and salmonella, and biting species cause painful, itchy welts.

Keep them out
